Your Consumer Rights
Until recently, the only place that you could purchase a casket from was a funeral home at a cost that would average in the thousands of dollars. Thanks to the Federal Trade Commission's "Funeral Rule", HCQC is now able to allow you to furnish your own casket at a greatly reduced cost. If you have not chosen a funeral home, we can assist you with selecting a funeral home that has reasonably priced services.
The Federal Trade Comission
Ruling (Rule #16 C.F.R. part 453)
The F.T.C. has ruled that funeral homes can no longer condition the purchase of a casket with the purchase of other funeral goods and services. If you are purchasing a casket from a source other than a funeral home, the funeral home of your choice must use the casket you have provided without duress or embrassment to the consumer.
Your Commission Rights Are Supported By The Federal Trade Commission
The funeral rules were amended in January of 1996 by the F.T.C. The funeral rule prevents a funeral provider from charging a handling fee for using a casket purchased elsewhere.
The funeral provider is required to use your casket from HCQC. The funeral director may in no way discriminate against your family in any way or treat them any differently than someone who has purchased a casket from the funeral home.
Any violation should be reported in writing or by phoning the Federal Trade Commission at 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-5357). |
